Panyushkin appears to be a true believer in the power of journalism and storytelling to build human connections and humanize the other. But as valuable as his perspective is, and as moving and illuminating as the stories he tells are, he doesn’t seem particularly optimistic that the divide between the people of his country and the one it invaded can be bridged, even long after this war ends.
